Do you know metal dome? Why we also can call snap dome, tactile dome? Do they are the same products?

Metal domes are widly used for the membrane keypad and swithces. The material of the metal dome is the stainless steel, and it looks like a dome, so we call metal dome. When we press the metal dome, it has crackling sound, so we also call snap dome. Tactile dome is the same meaning.

What’s the snap dome force, Re-force and click ratio?

What’s the snap dome force, Re-force and click ratio? Please see below for details.

Snap dome force is that the amount of the force when you press down the snap dome to contact the pcb. It should be stability of the force in order to ensure quality of the snap dome.

Re-force is the pressure let the snap dome return back to top.

Click ratio=(Force-Re-force)/Force*100%, the click ratio is narmal between 35%-75%

Snap dome diameter and thickness of material

Maybe some customers want to know if there is relation between Snap dome diameter and thickness of material.

Snap dome, also named metal dome, we have circle shape, four-leg shape, triangle shape, and oblong shape. The diameter from3mm to 20mm. You can see below rough thickness of material for different diameter:

1. 3mm-5mm diameter snap dome, normal use the 0.04mm-0.06mm thickness of stainless steel material;
2. 6mm-8mm diameter snap dome, normal use the 0.06mm-0.08mm thickness of stainless steel material;
3. 9mm-12mm diameter snap dome, normal use the 0.08mm-0.10mm thickness of stainless steel material;
4. 16-20mm diameter snap dome, normal use the 0.10mm-0.12mm thickness of stainless steel material;

The bigger diameter snap dome, the thickner material. The material also determine the quality of snap dome. Material of choice was out of our practical production.
